Build Your Own Website for Photographers

Websites For Photographers is a service designed to make it simple for users to create a professional website easily and cost effectively. The system offers full design functionality and an easy to use content management interface allowing the addition of image galleries, client galleries to sell images online, slideshows and much more.

Although designed mainly with photographers in mind, it can easily be adapted to create websites for artists, models or for any personal or business website whether or not image galleries are required.

A free, no obligation trial is offered to test out the system to see how it fits with your requirements. The service was launched in November 2009 and was developed to complement Our Wedding Memories the UK’s longest established wedding photographers directory.

Online since 2001 promoting the wedding photography services for thousands of photographers throughout the UK, Our Wedding Memories were well placed to develop such a system following much feedback regarding what a photographer wanted from their websites. The main criteria required by photographers was having the ability to update a website easily when required and create image galleries as a portfolio and for events covered.
Ecommerce is an integral part of the system and it is very simple to set shopping cart parameters to sell event images online with payment taken via PayPal. To set up the shopping cart system, a photographer simply needs to set prices for individual image sizes and add their paypal id. Then a client gallery can be uploaded, check a box to activate the shopping cart and select the prices to be active on that gallery as set previously. Visitors can then purchase images as required.

The system allows such functionality as well as the ability to completely change the look of the website in just a few clicks of the mouse. Other functionality is also offered and options for improving the look of the website.

Image slideshows can be created on any content page from any gallery previously uploaded to the system. Flash galleries can also be added either by embedding code from YouTube, Vimeo or other similar online service or by uploading a .swf file created offline.

Creating Flash .swf slideshows is now a very simple process with many programs available on the internet where you can create these slideshows on the fly. Many of these programs offer a free trial version so you can see what is on offer and test the output on your Websites For Photographers site. With most you simply select a template frame for displaying the images within, add the required images and select the transitions effects between images. To simplify the process transition effects can be set to the same throughout the slideshow or can automatically be set to random. Once the images are added the file can then be exported to Flash .swf format ready to be uploaded to your website.

The best way to assess the service is to try it out for yourself. As mentioned, there is a free trial of the system available with no obligation. Website hosting costs are more than competitive and are only required once completely happy with your new website.

  1. How do I create my own professional website for my art/sculptors with my own domain?
I want to know which sponsors are the best? Who can I hire to create a website for me which looks professional?
I really would like all the help I can get, message me or post here please.
It’s a website which includes (biography, photos, contact, etc.,)
    Thankyou!

  2. I use a company called GDI. You can create it yourself with the very easy to use Site Builder. It is the most simple web host you will find. But, it also has way more advanced features to use Dreamweaver or Frontpage. I mean, I get the domain name, the hosting, the Site Builder, forwarding services and 10 e-mails all for 10 dollars a month. It’s a No Brainer. I use Godaddy too, but it is so slow compared to GDI.

  3. I need a site that can help me create a professional website at low cost without having to know a program ?
I do not know any programming skills whatsoever. However, I need to make a very professional website for an organization. Is there any site that can give me tools to configure the website (without knowing the language) and edit/update it easily, while at a low cost? THANKS!

  4. How do I create a professional website for my artwork? (not deviantart)?
I’m just starting out as an illustrator and have established a good career so far. I have a DeviantArt and it’s not what I would want in a website. I’m finding out I need a real site in order to get commissions. I don’t know where to go for someone to create a webpage ( I would prefer to create it) and put it up on the internet for a reasonable price.

Thank you for so much for your time. I appreciate it.

  5. How do I create a professional website?
I would like to create a website for my mother’s spa business which specializes in beauty and what not. I was hoping someone may be able to help me w/ this. I think starting from scratch may be the option that appeals to me the most.

IF POSSIBLE I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE FREE

  6. First of all, “professional” and “free” cannot be used in the same sentence (not even on the same page!).
A proper domain and hosting plan can cost as little as 50$/year.
If you can’t afford that, then you are not a “professional” and will never make anything “professional”.
    That’s for the bad comment…

Professionals very rarely rely on IDEs to design their sites: they start with a mockup, as an image, made by a professional GRAPHIC artist (if they are not good artists themselves), then plan their actions, developing the specs “what and how” the site will do and work.
    After, then start coding.
Good coders use a simple Notepad (plain text editor).
Reason? They can fine tune the site as they go along, and for all browsers. They have a code that is clear, understandable and easy to maintain (something you will never have with and WYSIWYG software!)
Then they test their site on several browsers…

If you start from scratch, get a LAMP server, a proper domain, and learn HTML, javascript, php and MySQL at http://www.w3schools.com and http://www.php.net.

    Good luck!

  7. What would I use to create a professional website?
What tools would I use to create a professional looking website like Mapquest or Digg?

  8. Hey there Jman! I can tell you what I would/have used if that helps…

It’s all about the look and the back-end of it. For the look (front end) I have used CSS layouts (of which you can find some great free templates online) and Dreamweaver for the coding – so you can see how it looks right away. I’m a big notepad guy (the program) though, so I do most of my coding in Notepad. If you are more visual, there are tons of WYSIWYG editors out there where you just drag and drop where/what you want.

I would suggest using some sort of programming for it, so that the ‘frame’ of the page doesn’t change, just the main content (in the center of the screen for example) – that whay when you have to make changes, should only have to make them a few places…

  9. Have you tried GoDaddy.com?
If you’re serious about wanting a website, then go through the motions and get yourself a domain name, with web hosting, and build a simple yet sleek site for it.
And if you’re really serious…either learn how to make a website using Dreamweaver, or hire someone with expertise in the software to give you the site you truly desire.

Other web companies like go daddy can offer you domain names and hosting. Do the research, find what suits your needs, and…your budget. Good luck with your career!

  10. If I think you need to look for freely available templates and modify them to create the site. You can find lot of good templates at http://www.oswd.org

Once you find a good template, then you can just open the file in a text editor like note pad and create each page of your site. There are also other things you need to know for creating a site, like domain name registration, webhosting etc. You can find these explained here http://www.shaplus.com/guide/website/how-to-create-website.htm
