Benefits of Ecommerce

Ecommerce is one of the most important facets of the Internet to have emerged in the recent times. Ecommerce or electronic commerce involves carrying out business over the Internet with the assistance of computers, which are linked to each other forming a network. To be specific ecommerce would be buying and selling of goods and services and transfer of funds through digital communications. Nielsen a well known researcher has published new statistics on the overall online shopping trends – Over 875 Million Consumers Have Shopped Online – the Number of Internet Shoppers Up 40% in Two Years. The market of buying online is to soar in the next 5 years.

The benefits of Ecommerce:

a. Ecommerce allows people to carry out businesses without the barriers of time or distance. One can log on to the Internet at any point of time, be it day or night and purchase or sell anything one desires at a single click of the mouse.

b. The direct cost-of-sale for an order taken from a web site is lower than through traditional means (retail, paper based), as there is no human interaction during the on-line electronic purchase order process. Also, electronic selling virtually eliminates processing errors, as well as being faster and more convenient for the visitor.
c. Web design Companies describe how ecommerce is ideal for niche products.Customers for such products are usually few. But in the vast market place i.e. the Internet, even niche products could generate viable volumes.

d. Another important benefit of Ecommerce is that it is the cheapest means of doing business.

e. From the buyer’s perspective also ecommerce offers a lot of tangible advantages.

1. Reduction in buyer’s sorting out time.
2. Better buyer decisions
3. Less time is spent in resolving invoice and order discrepancies.
4. Increased opportunities for buying alternative products.

The strategic benefit of making a business “ecommerce enabled” is that it helps reduce the delivery time, labour cost and the cost incurred in the following areas:

1. Document preparation
2. Error detection and correction
3. Reconciliation
4. Mail preparation
5. Telephone calling
6. Data entry

Looking for a professional online design studio who can design logos, websites, brochures. High Quality and Fast

  2. Your local Office Depot and such can refer you to LogoExpress…

Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II days
Enthusiasm wanes, but dullness lasts forever.

  3. What is the best program to use to design professional websites? I’ve heard MS Frontpage is for Amateurs?

  4. Can anyone design professional looking websites in MS Frontpage?
I’m starting my own business soon and would appreciate a good professional website that I can update (I have MS FP 2000). If anyone could do a site for me (if i gave them all the info) I would gladly pay up to £50 for it. Anyone here good at this sort of thing? Thanks, Si 🙂

  5. The problem with FrontPage is that it’s IE compatible (IE6 in your case since it’s 2000, unless u get updates), but is not necessarily compatible with other browsers (since FrontPage is made by Microsoft). In this day and age, IE still has the majority of the market, but a large chunk of people now also use Firefox, and Safari, which could lead to compatibility issues.

You’re better off hiring someone, not necessarily professional if you know the site is simple, but knows their way in the code.

I could do it, but i’m not picking up jobs at this point.

  6. Internet websites that i can use to make/design professional looking questionnaires?
Im doing some research for a school project and wondering if theres a website that enables you to make professional looking questionnaires, cause i made some on microsoft word but they are looking rather crap 🙂
    Help is appreciated.

  7. Ah, that’s such a broad question and really based on preference.

The reason people say Frontpage is for amateurs is because it isn’t as robust as other programs out there, and compared to hard-core web site developers, they rather stick to hand-coding sites using Notepad or something like that.

If you’re talking about the creative design aspect of it, I would recommend using Photoshop to design out your site. I used to work in a big interactive design firm and we had huge clients. Everyone used Photoshop.

If you are talking about the programming/development side of it – that really depends. If you want to be “non-amateur” status, you might want to learn how to hand-code first. You can use Notepad or any text editor to do this. But if you want to use more a program designed for web development, you can use Adobe Dreamweaver or the old-school Home Site.

Then there are the programming frameworks that you can also use if you want to do more backend heavy stuff, like Eclipse for Java, Zend for PHP, and MIcrosoft Visual Studio for .Net

Again it’s all preference – if you become good at any of the programs, you can design professional websites with the best of them.
