Weebly: Create a Website
Weebly is an online, free, widget-based Web-site creator, funded by micro-seed fund Y Combinator. It makes use of a widget style format, allowing users to generate pages with only a few clicks by dragging and dropping different page elements (images, text, or interactive content, etc.) onto a page and filling in the content.
It competes with WebStarts, Yola (formerly Synthasite), Jimdo, Webs, uCoz, Wix, and other hosting and creation sites.
The site was originally created by David Rusenko, Dan Veltri, and Chris Fanini, all of whom attended Penn State for an undergraduate degree. It was named by Time Journal as number six of the fifty best sites of 2007.
Weebly’s WYSIWYG editing interface allows users to easily and quickly “drag and drop” content into the currently open Web page, which Weebly considers as its flagship feature. Consistent with this design are also a blog editor, a simple method of implementing and customizing its library of themes, and a policy of no forced advertising on even free accounts’ Web sites. Pro accounts include more capabilities such as the adding of in-site audio or video content, “premium” support, and site statistics.
The objective of Weebly when it was first created was to enable content creation. According to Weebly staff:
” How lots of people have lovely information that they need to put on the world wide web, but currently don’t know howc Perhaps it is because they don’t have a web host, perhaps it is because they don’t know how to write a web page and upload it. Whatever it is, web-site creation needs to get simpler, and I think this is the next step. Need a six column layoutc Drag and drop. Add Google AdWords to your sitec Drag and drop. Then click six times it, and set your options from simple drop-down-menus.”
Now you know the right place to generate your own web-site, so why wait log on to Weebly…
